Dance United -- the award-winning charity that believes in the power of dance to transform lives -- presented on 20 and 22 October 2012 the London premiere of A Holding Space -- an inspiring programme of work that brought together professional and non-professional dancers from across the UK and Ethiopia, at The Place, one of London's most prestigious dance venues.
Roost, the fourth piece in the performance, was originally commissioned by London-based Matrix Chambers in remembrance of World Refugee Day on 20 June 2012. Kwesi Johnson's innovative choreography tells the story of the modern refugee and is based on the experiences of refugees he encountered while working as a dance artist in Ugandan camps in the summers of 2010 and 2011. The dancers of this piece are members of Dance United's London Performance Company.
A Holding Space at The Place was produced by Rob Lynden. This film was produced and directed by Caswell Coggins and Andrew Coggins.
