Developed initially as an anti-aircraft weapon, the German 88mm Flak gun became one of the most adaptable and feared weapons of WWII. With its high-velocity shells and precise targeting, the 'Eighty-Eight' could easily puncture armor, making it a lethal weapon against Allied tanks.
But in the deserts of North Africa, the Germans found another use for the 88mm Flak. Positioned along the coast, the gun crews aimed not only at tanks and planes but also at ships approaching from the Mediterranean.
Today, we’ll uncover the story of how these guns took aim at Allied vessels, and in the heat of battle during Operation Agreement, struck fear along the shores and wreaked havoc on the British destroyer fleet.
