Luigi Mangione's Alleged Actions Could Change Everything

On the morning of December 9, 2024, United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson was walking through a bustling Manhattan, on his way to an investor’s conference at the Hilton Midtown.

As we all know, he would never end up reaching this destination. At 6:40 a.m., according to security camera footage, a masked assassin emerged with a 3D printed weapon, striking Thompson multiple times from behind before fleeing from the scene on a bike. Thompson would later be pronounced dead at the hospital.

A manhunt would soon unfold. Police searched far and wide for the gunman, releasing images to the public of possible suspects. News soon spread that a person of interest was seen on security footage entering an interstate bus depot, and police later announced that the suspect had likely left the state of New York.

Five days later, an arrest would be made at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, 286 miles away from the scene of the crime. Police charged 26-year old Luigi Mangione with first degree murder, as well as a list of other charges. He was allegedly found with a manifesto detailing why he committed the crime, and police have said his fingerprints were found near the scene.

There are numerous routes this video could take, but the most important conversation that needs to be had surrounding this event is about the public reaction to it. While many were shocked by the events, others went as far as cheering it on, and some even called for more shootings. This is the key reason that Luigi Mangione’s alleged actions, and his subsequent trial, will be remembered for a long, long time.
