"A GIRL NAMED GALILEA" 1950s NATION OF ISRAEL TRAVELOGUE FILM HAIFA TEL AVIV JERUSALEM 86894

This color educational film is about an ex military officer seeking a woman in Israel. It gives the viewer a tour of some of the country of Israel. There is no copyright featured and no opening credits. This is circa the 1950s.

A man exits a large ship, The ship loads supplies onto itself. Back in the past, an officer exits the ship. A woman wanders the shipyard looking around. The officer and the woman bump into each other. The woman leaves the yard and gets into a car. The man follows. They end up having lunch together. Her name is Galilea. They are in the country of Israel. A waiter serves them. Below them is the city of Haifa, the third-largest city in Israel. As they walk outside, the man puts his arm around her but she takes it off and holds him by the arm (:06-2:50). The man and the woman walk down a set of steps. They head for the city of Akko, also spelled Acre. Old Roman aqueducts. Some of the towers of Akko. The two look around. The two visit a temple. Mosaic scriptures on a wall. The two visit the crumbling crusader seawall. The old customs house (2:51-4:47). The two drink and eat pita bread at a cafe. The two of them run into the Mediterranean Sea. They then sit on the beach as it gets dark. Mt. Carmel at night. The two almost kiss. Back to the present the officer is now a civilian schoolteacher revisiting Israel. He walks around a shipyard. He visits a hotel desk and talks with a woman (4:48-6:47). The schoolteacher walks around. He seeks the woman he once spent time with. He is told by someone in her building that she moved. The man rents a car and leaves Haifa. The car drives. The Dolphin House is visited by him, a resort hotel. A waiter waits on the teacher and then helps him with directions. Close on a map as hands point. A man jumps into a swimming pool. Other people swim. The schoolteacher is from Connecticut in the USA. The teacher puts on swimming goggles (6:48-9:23). The teacher drives. Sheep roam the fields. Men ride horses. The driver talks with them. The car drives away. We see an old police station. The river Jordan. The car drives on. Shots of trees. The man parks at a farm and looks around. He shakes hands with the cousin of the girl he looks for. Olive Grove hills. The city of Safed is located at an elevation of 900 meters, Safed is the highest city in the Galilee and in Israel. He walks down a set of steps in Safed. Buildings in Safed. He overlooks the city. A sign reads 'artists colony.' He wanders the city passing stone walls (9:24-13:08). The teacher finds the aunt of the girl he seeks. She is a painter painting. The two talk. He sits and drinks (13:09-13:57). A car drives along a road in Israel. Aerial shots of the country. Farmers farm. Plowing the fields. Using a tractor. Mount Tabor. The car drives and behind is a shot of the countryside. A Franciscan priest at a basilica. Interior of a church. The priest and the teacher walk together. A visit to Kanna. Boys play in water (13:58-15:59). SIgn for a Caffe Restaurant. The teacher sips a drink with an Arab. A visit to the city Nazareth. The teacher walks the city, reads a book. A shot of ruins. A church. He walks the city and visits a synagogue. It is a town of Jesus. The fountain of our lady, Mary. A church. Aerial shot of the city. Camels on the streets, Arabs. A tourist bus. Sheep on a hillside. Cactus. Arabs walk a street. Arabs clap and celebrate (16:00-19:34). The Arabs are celebrating a feast. Men dance, play the fiddle. The teacher drives away, past the sea of Galilee. He arrives and stays at the Galei Kinneret. He has food and is served by a waiter overlooking the sea (19:35-21:06). The teacher watches a man put a fishing net together. He wanders the town, passing ancient structures. He approaches a door. A sign reads: Ospizio Italiano Monte Beatitudini. The teacher walks around where Jesus Christ delivered his sermon on the mount. The sun sets over the sea (21:07-22:15). Men work on the side of the road, along the river Jordan. Little girls practice dance moves on the grass. Flowers bloom. The teacher finds the woman he's looking for, she's teaching the class. The two reunite and shake hands. The two walk around together, they pass amongst the ruins and the water (22:16-24:07). The two walk through the ruins. The two sit and enjoy a drink as a waiter serves them. The woman olds up her students onto a boat. The man has joined her as well. The two sit near one another as they pass many Israel sites (24:08-26:08). End credits (26:09-26:12).
