जुगल काबरा का जन्म जोधपुर जिले में एक सामान्य परिवार में हुआ। युवावस्था से ही उनमें राजनीति की ओर गहरी रुचि थी। कांग्रेस पार्टी के प्रति उनकी निष्ठा और संगठनात्मक क्षमता ने उन्हें तेजी से पहचान दिलाई। 90 के दशक में कांग्रेस ने उन्हें जोधपुर से चुनावी मैदान में उतारा और जनता ने भी उन पर भरोसा जताया।"
साल 1998—यह वो साल था जब जुगल काबरा ने जोधपुर विधानसभा सीट से कांग्रेस उम्मीदवार के रूप में चुनाव लड़ा। सामने थीं बीजेपी की दिग्गज नेता सूर्यकांता व्यास। यह मुकाबला किसी बड़ी चुनौती से कम नहीं था। लेकिन काबरा जी ने 33,991 वोट हासिल कर शानदार जीत दर्ज की और कांग्रेस को जोधपुर में एक नई ताकत दी।
लेकिन राजनीति हमेशा जीत की गारंटी नहीं देती। 2003 में, जुगल काबरा ने दोबारा चुनाव लड़ा, लेकिन उन्हें सूर्यकांता व्यास से करीब 3,000 वोटों से हार का सामना करना पड़ा। 2008 में भी उन्होंने अपनी कोशिश जारी रखी, मगर सफलता हाथ नहीं लगी। इसके बावजूद वे हारे नहीं, बल्कि कांग्रेस संगठन के लिए पूरी ईमानदारी से काम करते रहे।
राजनीति का रास्ता हमेशा सीधा और आसान नहीं होता। 2012 में उनका नाम जयनारायण व्यास विश्वविद्यालय शिक्षक भर्ती घोटाले में सामने आया।
भ्रष्टाचार निरोधक ब्यूरो यानी ACB ने उन्हें गिरफ्तार भी किया। हालांकि कांग्रेस पार्टी ने इस गिरफ्तारी को राजनीतिक प्रतिशोध बताया। पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री अशोक गहलोत ने इसे विपक्ष द्वारा नेताओं को निशाना बनाने का प्रयास कहा। इस विवाद ने जरूर उनकी राजनीतिक छवि को चुनौती दी, लेकिन समर्थकों की नज़रों में वे अब भी साहसी और जुझारू नेता बने रहे।
विवादों के बीच जीवन आगे बढ़ता रहा, लेकिन बीमारी ने उनका साथ नहीं छोड़ा। लंबे समय तक लीवर कैंसर से जूझने के बाद 10 मई 2017 को मुंबई के एक अस्पताल में उनका निधन हो गया। उनकी अंतिम यात्रा जोधपुर में निकाली गई, जहाँ हजारों लोगों की भीड़ उन्हें श्रद्धांजलि देने पहुँची। कांग्रेस के दिग्गज नेता अशोक गहलोत, सचिन पायलट, सांसद गजेंद्र सिंह शेखावत और कई राजनीतिक हस्तियों ने उन्हें अंतिम विदाई दी।
जुगल काबरा का राजनीतिक जीवन उतार-चढ़ाव से भरा रहा, लेकिन उनकी असली पहचान जनता से उनके सीधे जुड़ाव की रही। वे हमेशा लोगों की समस्याओं को ध्यान से सुनते और समाधान ढूंढने की कोशिश करते। उनके समर्थक आज भी कहते हैं कि काबरा जी ने राजनीति को निजी लाभ का साधन नहीं, बल्कि जनता की सेवा का मंच माना।
स्वर्गीय जुगल काबरा का जीवन हमें यह सिखाता है कि राजनीति सिर्फ़ सत्ता पाने का साधन नहीं है। यह जनता की सेवा का ज़रिया है। एक कार्यकाल के विधायक रहते हुए भी उन्होंने ईमानदारी और संघर्षशीलता का परिचय दिया, जो आने वाली पीढ़ियों के लिए प्रेरणादायक है। यही वजह है कि आज भी जोधपुर की गलियों में उनका नाम याद किया जाता है।
Jugal Kabra was born into a modest family in Jodhpur district. From a young age, he had a deep interest in politics. His loyalty to the Congress Party and his organizational skills quickly earned him recognition. In the 1990s, Congress fielded him as their candidate from Jodhpur, and the public placed their trust in him.

The year 1998 was a turning point—Jugal Kabra contested the Jodhpur Assembly seat as a Congress candidate. His opponent was the veteran BJP leader Suryakanta Vyas. The contest was nothing short of a major challenge, but Kabra secured an impressive victory with 33,991 votes, giving Congress a renewed strength in Jodhpur.

However, politics never guarantees constant victories. In 2003, Kabra contested again but lost to Suryakanta Vyas by around 3,000 votes. He made another attempt in 2008, but success remained elusive. Despite these setbacks, he didn’t give up and continued working for the Congress organization with complete dedication.

Politics is rarely a straightforward journey. In 2012, his name surfaced in the Jai Narain Vyas University teacher recruitment scam. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) even arrested him, though the Congress Party described this arrest as a political vendetta. Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot called it an attempt by the opposition to target leaders. The controversy certainly challenged his political image, but in the eyes of his supporters, he remained a courageous and resilient leader.

Life went on amid controversies, but illness became a constant companion. After battling liver cancer for a long time, Jugal Kabra passed away on May 10, 2017, at a hospital in Mumbai. His funeral procession was held in Jodhpur, where thousands gathered to pay their respects. Senior Congress leaders Ashok Gehlot, Sachin Pilot, MP Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, and many other political figures bid him farewell.

Jugal Kabra’s political career was full of highs and lows, but his true identity lay in his direct connection with the people. He always listened attentively to their problems and sought solutions. His supporters still say that Kabra never saw politics as a means of personal gain but as a platform for public service.

The life of the late Jugal Kabra teaches us that politics is not merely a way to attain power; it is a means to serve the people. Even during his single term as an MLA, he demonstrated integrity and determination, becoming a source of inspiration for future generations. That is why his name is still remembered in the streets of Jodhpur."
