Vocal : Hyderabad Brothers

Hyderabad Brothers, comprising D. Raghavachari (born 1952) and D. Seshachari (1956–2024), were one of the most celebrated Carnatic vocal duos of modern times, known for their perfect synchronization, clarity, and devotion to classical tradition. Born in Yakutpura, Hyderabad, into a musically gifted family, both parents, Daroor Ratnamacharyulu and Daroor Sulochana Devi, were musicians. The brothers received their initial rigorous training from their father. Raghavachari later studied under Susarla Sivaram at the Government College of Music and Dance, Hyderabad, while Seshachari continued under his father’s tutelage. Their first major performance as the “Hyderabad Brothers” was at Tiruvaiyaru in Tamil Nadu, which earned them acclaim and launched their national career. Over the decades, they performed extensively across India and abroad, appearing on All India Radio, Doordarshan, and in prestigious sabhas worldwide, releasing more than fifty albums. Their contrasting yet complementary styles, Raghavachari’s mellow and soft tone paired with Seshachari’s robust and resonant voice made their duets particularly engaging. Their concerts were known for imaginative planning, rare kritis, and adherence to classical purity, making them both respected and beloved in Carnatic circles. The duo received numerous honors, including the Madras Music Academy’s Best Vocalist Awards (1990–1992), the Maharajapuram Viswanatha Iyer Award (1993), the Krishna Gana Sabha Best Vocalists Award, and were named Aasthana Vidwans of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham. They also received the Kalarathna Award from the Andhra Pradesh Government in 2012 and the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2013 for their contributions to Carnatic music. Tragically, D. Seshachari passed away on 24 February 2024 at the age of 67 after battling cancer. Even in his final months, he continued performing, including at the Thyagaraja Aradhana festival in January 2024. Together, the Hyderabad Brothers’ legacy continues to inspire generations of Carnatic musicians and rasikas around the world.

Meaning:

O Brhannayaki (a form of Parvathi, consort of Lord Brihadeeshwara of Tanjavur), Protect and take care of the ignorant and humble people.

Bestower of all desired boons, you are the stream of nectar-like compassion.

O Goddess who resides in a tender and gentle heart, you illuminate the intellect of Guruguha, are the noble and virtuous consort of Lord Shiva, the divine counselor to those who bow before you, and the one who brings joy to Sri Mahadeva.
