I love kit bashing, especially when it is based in a fictional post-apocalyptic scenario.
The main platform for the car is the 1966 Pontiac GTO by Revell. It's the 1998 release version that I bought several years ago and never had the time, until now to do something with it. I deliberately bought this model for a post apox build and now that's happening.
This is part 1 which mainly encompasses the reasoning and the basics of where the build is at and I focused a lot on what I've done to the model so far.
I will be focusing on the final assembly, painting, and weathering in the next video/s. I'm not sure yet, how many more vids there will be to cover this, but mostly likely at least 1-3 more to cover the complete build. This project is current as the release date of today 11/22/24.
I'm also considering doing a small vignette/diorama to display the final model.
The goal for the painting/weathering will be to make it very worn, but not worn out. I will be using both the hairspray and salt chipping methods for the paint fading, and rust/corrosion chipping. I'll be using the Oil Paint Rendering (OPR) method for weathering the car. Military modelers will be most familiar with these techniques. I really didn't want to build a nice, shiny, trailer, show queen for this build. This has already been a ton of fun to think through and kit bash and create custom pieces for the car and I can't wait to continue the project.
I hope you'll enjoy watching the progression, I can't wait to get to the painting and weathering.
