We use to think and say: "Life is too short to fight about the little things. Let's not waste our precious moments and appreciate what we have. Let's focus on the positive!"
Easier said than done, I think, and the more I try focussing on the positive, just a few moments later the doubts, the worries and the madness come to the surface again even bigger.
So many of those little conflicts in my friend- and partnerships seem silly when I 'zoom out', put them into a larger scale and realise how grateful we can be to live the life that we have.
Yet, the conflicts come again and again and the little annoying things keep getting bigger.
So is there something deeper to be explored behind them?
Is it part of human nature that we always look for something to be worried about, for something to improve, something to argue and fight about?
Is it a need for growth, a wish to improve things, right where we stand in life?
The better everything gets, the more particular will those little conflicts and 'improvements' become?
How can we learn to work those things out without getting into dramatic arguments and fights?
Julie Scott probably used the 'Mad Hatter' as the song title here, which reminds of the character from Alice in Wonderland, who represents "some of the most irritating and unpleasant traits in our human nature, which, although not life-threatening, can still make life quite unbearable" (quote from www).
I guess that's how we are sometimes, and every time we get into those dark moments with each other there is something to be learnt about ourselves and our relationships.
Julie originally wrote this beautifully mysterious song about friendship as part of her 'Spellbound' folk project with Peter Slager (go check them out, if you enjoy some gentle and grounded acoustic music!).
I was very fascinated by the songwriting and harmonic composition of it and felt challenged to transform it into a dark and driving trance piece.
I have played it out at my shows quite often over the last two years and while I kept finetuning it, the interest and feedback on it has grown steadily so that I finally feel it got ready to be released now.
Thank you all for your support here once again and see you at Luminosity in three weeks!
