The Principality of Transylvania

Transylvania holds a unique position in the collective consciousness of Hungarians, as an ancient homeland, a lost territory, and a region rich in Hungarian cultural and historical heritage. Because of its difficult accessibility, it has always stood as separate from the rest of the country; however, it was part of the Hungarian Crown for 900 years and continues to be a significant component of Hungarian identity.
