COME WITH US, to LONG ISLAND. No, not New York, Newfoundland

Welcome to Long Island, NL. Gilbert has been wanting, to get to go to the Long Island day festivities for years. It never seems to coincide with his time off, so he booked his holidays to make this year work. Well, wouldn't you know it, the fog rolled into Voiseys Bay and the flights were grounded, on fly out day. Luckily the next morning, the skies cleared enough for him to get home just in time to race to the ferry and head for the dance. The friends and family, he hoped to connect with, were ready for a great night out, and the reminiscing and fun began. We danced the night away, enjoyed company of old friends, met some new ones and enjoyed the hospitality, little rural communities are known for.
Long Island, has 2 communities, Lushes Bight and Beaumont. Young families are few and far between there anymore, but summer time brings many, back home. The laid back lifestyle of outport, island life is something that is cherished and sharing it with new generations is more important than ever. The new ways intertwine with the old and outport life, is slowly growing with the times. It's these remote outport communities that keep old Newfoundland and Labrador alive. These times of celebration and community spirit go to show that, old ways are far from gone, and will hopefully be passed down for many generations to come.
