Since 2012, Iran has been classified as one of the protest-prone countries, where an average of 8 protests (regardless of the type of protest, quantity and quality) are formed every day. Over the past decade, nationwide protests with different goals and demands have been formed by different groups, classes and strata. These are generally categorized as anti-government protests. Based on published videos, pictures, and citizen’s narrative, the protests of recent years in Iran have been one of the most peaceful utilizing new and innovative methods of civil protest. The government has labeled these legitimate protests as disturbances, and the citizens as rioters and “others', and only has responded by giving a free pass to security forces for a total suppression.


The suppression methods that the Islamic Republic uses to create fear and terror have changed depending on the form these protests take. These methods continuously get updated and have grown to complex and terrifying dimensions. In the latest Iranian’s nationwide protest movement which formed after the regime’s murder of Jina (Mahsa) Amini, subsequently known as the "Woman, Life, Freedom" movement, the government went beyond suppression in the streets, arrests, and heavy-handed sentencing. It attacked the prisons, destroyed citizens' properties, arrested the children, committed rape and maiming, and other new methods of suppression, in order to demonstrate its seriousness and resolute will to suppress any opposing voice.


Farzad Seifikaran, is an Iranian-Dutch author and journalist born in September 1987 in Sanandaj. He has studied Persian Literature in Iran and Investigative Journalism in the Netherlands. At present he is an investigative journalist and the director of the human rights section in Radio Zamaneh and has published many investigative reports in the area of politics, social and security issues and human rights.
He has been writing on different subjects for many years as well as collaborating with various publications and media inside and outside of Iran. Since 2017 he has created the Roonak Publishing for the promotion of publishing in exile, countering the censorship and supporting the writers inside and outside of Iran. It has published more than 50 titles in Farsi, Kurdish, English and Dutch.
In 2017 he became an honorary member of the Exiled Writers and Journalists in the Netherlands. He is also a member of the Dutch and European Journalists Union, as well as a member of the International Federation of Journalists.
