San Carlos Apache tribal leaders, prompted by inquiries from The Arizona Republic, promise internal investigation into the handling of Emily Pike's 2023 sexual assault report

Fourteen-year-old Emily Pike was sexually assaulted in 2023, and the case was dropped. Tribal leaders have announced they are investigating the handling of the case.
After the assault, Emily was removed from her home in Peridot. She frequently ran away from her group home and attempted suicide.
Emily's relatives express frustration over what they call systemic failures within tribal agencies and seek accountability for the lack of protection provided to her.
Fourteen-year-old Emily Pike was a victim long before her dismembered body was found off U.S. 60 north of Globe on Valentine's Day.
