Singing holidays: how we joined a Caribbean choir

As we headed to Antigua, in the Caribbean, we had been asked if we wanted to join the Caribbean choir at our hotel the Pineapple Beach Club. Sarah was up for it, I was not, but both of us joined in and had the time of our lives.
Vocal coaches Mike & Carol King, take us on a musical journey and unveil our hidden voices.
You see Mike is a musical director, arranger and celebrity vocal coach to Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine, has worked with Mark Ronson, Lily Allen, Boy George and was a coach on The Voice UK. We would be taught to sing by one of the UK’s top vocal coaches. It was brilliant – but truly daunting.
We started with gentle stretching exercises to warm our muscles and ready our voices.
This was followed over the coming days by fun, laughter and tremendous community bonding were enjoyed by us all as our confidence and skill levels soared.
After just three two-hour training sessions held over three days, we were ready to perform live before an audience. On a warm Caribbean evening overlooking a calm ocean twenty-five of us sang our hearts out on a truly memorable evening before an appreciative crowd.
Proudly we belted out, Let’s Stay Together by Al Green; Many Rivers to Cross by Jimmy Cliff; (Your Love Has Lifted Me) Higher and Higher, by Jackie Wilson, and Stay, by Rihanna. Our Caribbean choir gave us much more than we could have ever have imagined.
