Join me on a walk through history as we follow the path of the former Norwich to Aylsham railway line — once a vital route for steam trains connecting Norfolk’s countryside to the coast.
Starting from Norwich, we trace the disused railway line north along the Marriott’s Way, exploring old station sites, railway bridges, and beautiful rural landscapes. Along the way, we pass through villages like Drayton, Lenwade, Reepham, and eventually reach Aylsham, where the route connects with the Bure Valley Railway — a working heritage line running charming steam and diesel trains to Wroxham.
This line originally opened in the 1870s as part of the East Norfolk Railway, later absorbed by the Great Eastern Railway. Passenger services ended in 1952, with full closure by 1982.
