Cash-strapped Pakistan stares at a default as it has failed to reach a deal with the International Monetary Fund so far. The IMF mission left Pakistan after a 10-day 'urgent visit' without announcing a deal. The international lender said that considerable progress was made during crisis talks. Islamabad agreed a $6.5 billion loan package with the IMF in 2019 and has been battling to unlock a crucial tranche of cash as the threat of national bankruptcy looms. Meanwhile, Pakistan's forex reserves have plunged further to $2.9 billion, enough only for 16-17 days of imports.
