Teemu Suninen testing ahead of 2021 WRC Rally Monza w/ a Hyundai i20 Coupé WRC Plus!

It always amaze me the fact I totally love WRC's pre-event testing but I've never managed to attend one, both because I never know the places/days of these tests in advance and because they generally take place too far away from where I live. Since I learned that the final round of the 2021 World Rally Championship would be held in Monza again, I have done everything possible to find out the dates and locations of these tests (which had also occurred last year).

Luckily last week I found that they were going to be held almost exactly on the same roads of last year's ones, with Toyota testing in the North of Friuli region (too far for me) and Hyundai back on the routes it used last year North of Brescia, whose travel times are much more accessible for me. So yesterday I went to attend the second day of Hyundai testing held with Teemu Suninen behind the wheel.

The Finn driver was recently announced as part of the Hyundai's lineup for the upcoming ACI Monza Rally together with Thierry Neuville, Daniel Sordo and Oliver Solberg. Teemu will replace 2019 WRC champion Ott Tänak in the season finale who had to cancel his participation due to personal family reasons. The course used for the test was a 2.5 km uphill road with both fast sections, some sequences of slower corners and some hairpin bends. Once reached the top, the course was covered downhill.

Since I'm not going to attend the 2021 ACI Monza Rally, it was nice to see for the last time one of the WRC Plus era cars in action with a pro rally driver before being replaced by the new hybrid Rally 1s next year. I'll really miss these aero monsters and their incredible speeds in fast sections.
