The Eight Sicknesses Of The Heart

The heart is the center of your faith.
When it’s sick, actions lose sincerity and worship loses meaning.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“In the body is a piece of flesh; if it is sound, the whole body is sound.
If it is corrupt, the whole body is corrupt.
It is the heart.”
(Bukhari & Muslim)

There are eight major sicknesses that destroy the heart if left untreated.

1. Shirk
Associating partners with Allah.
Relying, fearing, or loving others as you should love Allah.
It ruins every deed.
The cure is Tawheed—pure worship and complete trust in Allah alone.

2. al-Hiqd (Hatred and Animosity)
Holding grudges against Muslims.
It kills unity and hardens the heart.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Do not hate each other, do not envy each other… be servants of Allah, brothers.”
The cure is forgiveness and du‘a for those who wronged you.

3. al-Hasad (Envy)
Wanting someone’s blessing to disappear.
It burns your deeds before it harms them.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Envy eats good deeds as fire eats wood.”
The cure is contentment and gratitude.
Say, Alhamdulillah often.

4. ash-Shuh (Stinginess)
Loving wealth so much that you can’t give.
It makes you forget that everything you have is a trust.
Allah says:
“And whoever is protected from the stinginess of his soul—it is those who will be successful.” (59:9)
The cure is giving often, even when you feel it hurts.

5. al-Kibr (Arrogance)
Thinking you’re better than others.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“No one with an atom’s weight of arrogance will enter Paradise.”
The cure is humility—remembering you were dust and will return to dust.

6. Hub al-Dunya (Love of the World)
Being attached to wealth, status, or comfort.
It distracts you from the hereafter.
The Prophet ﷺ warned:
“The world is cursed, except for the remembrance of Allah and what follows it.”
The cure is zuhd—using the world without letting it own your heart.

7. Hub al-Riyasa (Love of Leadership)
Craving control, authority, and power.
It corrupts intention and turns service into ego.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“You will covet leadership, but it will be a cause of regret on the Day of Judgment.”
The cure is serving others sincerely, not ruling them.

8. Hub ash-Shuhra (Love of Fame)
Wanting to be seen, praised, followed.
It’s hidden shirk—the worship of people’s attention.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“What I fear most for you is the hidden shirk: a man who stands to pray and beautifies his prayer because people are watching.”
The cure is ikhlas—doing deeds only for Allah.
