Vodun is often misunderstood, surrounded by fear, myths, and false assumptions.
But after attending Vodun Days in Ouidah, Benin Republic, I realized it was not what I expected.
In this documentary, I share my journey from Cotonou, the economic capital of Benin Republic, to Ouidah, where Vodun Days was being celebrated. I witnessed traditional dances, powerful drum rhythms, cultural expressions passed down through generations, and a deep connection between the people and their heritage.
I also faced challenges, including language barriers while trying to interview locals, but one thing stood out clearly—culture speaks beyond words.
Vodun Days taught me that culture is best understood when you experience it, not when you judge it from afar. This journey changed my perspective and deepened my appreciation for African heritage.
Sometimes, the stories we fear the most are the ones we understand the least.
Other times, all it takes is showing up.
