This musical dance piece is called, Darbari, meaning “of the court” showcasing Kathak as it developed in the Mughal courts. Under Mughal patronage, dancers came into contact with Turkish and Persian influences, incorporating the straight-leg stance of Persian dance and pirouettes that were perhaps inspired by the whirling dervishes of Turkey.
Kathak was transformed from a devotional dance to a court dance, with a focus on grace, charm, romanticism and technical virtuosity.
Dancers wore lavish costumes and 150 bells on each ankle to accentuate rhythmic displays.
It was in Mughal courts that the dance became stylized, incorporating linear movements, intricate footwork, and fast spins -the hallmarks of Kathak today.
Hope you all enjoy this presentations remaining in eager to know your feedbacks and comments.
