This is Steamworx, a Model Engineering channel. Building Dyak continued...
In his book Simple Model Locomotive Building, LBSC suggests he made a pair of cylinders over a weekend, not just the cylinder blocks but steam chests, covers, pistons, the whole lot! Well I am nowhere near that fast as these blocks took over 20 hours of spare time on their own!
Building this model steam engine in 2 1/2 inch gauge, Dyak (an LBSC design) continues with making the cylinder blocks. These start life as gunmetal (red brass) castings although it is not a difficult job to build them up from stock.
There are a number of interesting machining operations and I show a variety of methods in this video. There are many other ways of doing things, these are the methods I chose this time around.
Some of these set-ups utilise an angle plate that I recently modified to make the job easier, and also an expanding mandrel which comes in very useful on a number of occasions.
I hope you approve!
