Attempting to steam bend a shepherds crook from 1" square newly quarter sawn red-oak.
First try (not recorded0 was an attempt to free-hand the bend around the bending form. Pretty much total blow-out as the bend split 1/2" into the 1" stock.
This is the second attempt, with the hook end of the compression strap secured to the bending form, and trying to bend the stock around the form from there.
Compression of the wood was not so good and there was some significant tear-out, which I glued back down to the curve. Since these are to be stage props, strength is not critical to the final product.
I'll try this again.
