In June 2024, we flew to Houston and on to Chicago. We were making our way towards the start point of the 1250 mile Pacific Northwest Trail in Glacier National Park, Montana. We decided to see a bit more of the country and take Amtrak's Empire Builder train to Glacier. The train travels all the way through to Seattle, winding its way through six states: Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, Montana & Washington. It took us around 30 hours to get to Whitefish, Montana, a gateway town to the stunning Glacier National Park. After being in full-on tourist mode in Houston and Chicago, it wasn't a bad thing to relax and watch the scenery roll by. This time, we crossed the Continental Divide by rail; The next time we crossed, it would be on foot as we headed towards the Pacific Ocean on the PNT.
