This was our last morning at Kingfisher Park Birdwatchers Lodge, and we spent it in the same way as the day before. Down to Bushy Creek before sunrise to have the pleasure of seeing 3 Platypuses taking a last snack before their bedtime. The Papuan Frogmouths sat a little better than yesterday.
Back at our room we had breakfast and a little feeder-watch, after our bags were packed. Among all Chestnut-breasted Mannikins and Red-browed Finches we had a nice view of a Pacific Emerald Dove.
At 11 we checked out and made a visit to Abattoir Swamp on our way to Mareeba Motor Inn. We also made a short stop at the memorial at Lake Mitchell where we saw our first Black Swans and a Caspian Tern. The distance was too far, the heat shimmer awful. We didn't linger long, but continued south to Mareeba Motor Inn where we hoped we could get an early check-in. This surprised the guy in the reception, he didn't have us booked until tomorrow. He was correct!
We were supposed to spend the night up in Daintree, because tomorrow morning we have a 2,5 hour private boat cruise along the river...
The distance up to Daintree wasn't that long, but it was still appr 2,5 hours of birding around Daintree that was lost. Not anything else to do but to drive north, taking a lunch stop in Mareeba first.
We checked in at Daintree Riverview Lodge at 3 PM, then we took a drive along the river, upstreams. Didn't see very much, so we had an early evening. We do have an early morning tomorrow, too...
