Mice and rodents do not need a big opening to enter your home. If your home or building has brick walls, take a look at the weep holes for potential rodent entrances.
Weep holes in the mortar between the brick allow moisture to not get trapped behind the brick. These weep holes can also allow rodents and insects in.
Prudential Pest Solutions uses a product called Xcluder to stop mice and rodents from entering the weep holes in the brick. Xcluder is a great rodent proofing product because it stops mice and allows moisture and airflow to the brick. Unlike steel wool, Excluder is easier to work with and does not rust. Copper mesh and hardware cloth can also be used to prevent rodents and mice.
NEVER seal up the weep holes in the brick. You can cause major moisture issues behind your walls if you remove the ventilation.
