Dexter New Blood is coming out so we will be looking at how to be dangerous and analyzing Dexter.

Emotional control

Dexter Morgan lives an extremely stressful life between the nature of his work and trying to stay ahead of law enforcement. Yet despite this, he is always calm.

No matter what happens he is always the one in control and always finds a way to be successful. This is a stark contrast to his sister Deb who is always very emotional.

She is always stuttering and unsure of herself and has a hard time thinking objectively. Her emotions also make her an easy target as we saw in season 1 when her boyfriend turns out to be the very serial killer she was investigating.

Dexter is not easily intimidated as people are constantly trying to test him which never fazes him in the slightest. He has such a degree of control that its one of the main reasons Doakes was always suspicious of him. Dexter's ability to control his emotions are one of his greatest assets and it makes him very intimidating.

Be the smartest guy in the room

Another trait that makes Dexter incredibly deadly is that he's almost always the smartest guy in the room. He always either knows something everyone else doesnt or has a way of looking at it from a different perspective that yields new information.

For Dexter, blood and crime are much deeper than just a job or a field of study. They are an obsession for him and when you have a passion that is so strong that it becomes an obsession, learning never gets boring.

Because of this he has become a true master in the craft of blood spatter and criminal psychology.

When you are a master at a skill it is a lot easier to control the situation. Everything you do has a smoothness to it and you make connections the average person cannot see.

Always be one step ahead:

No matter the situation Dexter is always one step ahead of everyone. Whether it be members of law enforcement or another serial killer he is a master of the cat and mouse game.

Dexter has an uncanny ability to put himself inside the minds of people. This allows him to feign emotion and blend in effectively but as we saw in the clip it also allows him to predict how people will react.

Dexter knew that Doakes was a very hot-tempered emotional person and knew that if he provoked him he would attack Dexter in front of everyone.

We see this a lot when Dexter is hunting his victims as well. He will devise some elaborate way to lure his victims before he stuns them.

Or he will predict their next move or where they are going and wait for them there. Dexter was so skilled at this that he actually becomes bored in season 2 and starts to look for a challenge.

Psychopaths naturally view people as pawns and the world as a game so this obviously gives Dexter an advantage but it's not impossible for an average person to be as cunning as Dexter.

To be one step ahead of everyone you need to be able to predict how people will react. This should actually be easier to do as a non-psychopathic person because you have empathy.

Psychopaths have no empathy so their main method for predicting how people will react is solely based on experience.

We see sometimes that this fails Dexter and he is often insensitive or misses an emotional cue. If you want to always be one step ahead in any situation, using empathy is a very useful skill that can be used for good or bad

Dark Passenger:

Dexter calls his need to kill his dark passenger. This is basically his true self. Dexter's ability to recognize that he has these desires and understand his true self is another reason he is so dangerous.

It's because of this understanding that he and his father Harry came up with the code of Harry.

The code is basically a set of rules Dexter lives by that keep him safe from the police and help him appear normal.

Some examples of his rules are that he only goes after other killers, that he fakes his emotions to blend in and that he never makes things personal.

The code allows Dexter to be extremely disciplined and keeps his impulses under control.

Without the code of Harry, Dexter would have been caught much sooner, probably at a young age. However, he was only able to adopt such a set of rules because he understood himself and his needs.

Dexter has numerous personality traits and skills that make him the perfect killer but these skills by themselves aren't necessarily bad. Being seen as dangerous or intimidating can be useful, especially if you are someone who is seen as weak.
