AEG test Radar-9989 Geiger Counter ionizing radiation detector it’s a Game Changer

Note the following error stated by me in the video The GMC600+ uses a LND-7317 NOT a 7314 as I incorrectly stated in the video.
I Also stated in the video that the energy compensating shield will block the Beta radiation , it will not necessarily block all Beta it will eliminate pretty much all of the alpha and block most of the Beta but not totally eliminate it. I Also, may have incorrectly implied that it will eliminate braking radiation or bremsstrahlung, in reality since we don't know the thickness of the energy compensating shield or the materials that comprise it, it most definitely is not going to eliminate all of the braking radiation from a beta particle or any other particle that may cause it.

This Ionizing radiation detector or Geiger Counter is built around a USA made LND-7311 Pancake GM detector.The LND-7311’s large surface area and thin mica window allow for detection of Alpha,Beta and Gamma ionizing radiation.This instrument will be a game changer in value if the pricing is less than comparable instruments. At this writing the MSRP was below three hundred dollars whether is stays at this price is TBD since it is a new product offering and not yet available at this writing as well.I have tested this against my GMC600+ a similar instrument that has a LND-7317 GM pancake tube with the same dimensions the difference is primarily in the operating voltage of the detector the 7311 runs at 900V and the 7317 at 500V.Compared to my GMC 600+ the AEG test has a higher count rate sensitivity /response when placed directly on a 5uC Cs 137 source disc the AEG test unit reads approximately 150k higher CPM than the GMC 600+, keep in mind this is just a reference it has no bearing necessarily on the instruments accuracy or repeatability. According to a colleague of mine the 900V detectors compared to the 500V ones do have a higher sensitivity.The AEG unit at this writing does not have upgradable firmware but they said that they know the value of having it and are considering it for future product generations. The device does have built in data logging functions but the data cannot be downloaded or exported from the device. The device does have a surface contamination feature though for me personally I find no real value in it I simply just note normal background in a clean area and then perform a scan of the work area. If you are a watch maker who frequently works on antique time pieces and may come across radium painted watch hands, look no further this instrument is more than capable of this type of safety assessment.There is no BT or WiFi features with this device also.The energy compensation sliding shield, the material composition and thickness details I was told by the manufacturer are part of their core technical design and are considered confidential.All being said this device is great for detecting low activity items such as Uranium Glass and other radioactive antiques. It will also work well for rock hounding since it comes with a telescoping pole that attaches to the unit. I would though place the unit in a bag to avoid dust entering it when used for rock hounding.The LND-7311 GM tube used in the AEG test Radar-9989 is a bullet proof proven detector made in the USA. In the nuclear industry, it is used in many different name brand manufacturers ionizing radiation detectors. One of the most common uses is in what is called a “frisker” probe used to detect radiological contamination on one’s person.Whether you are a professional, enthusiast, antique collector or hobbyist this detector is worth considering for purchase.I look forward to the future revision of this product and I hope they keep the LND-7311 Pancake GM tube, to me it is what makes this instrument desirable for one’s ionizing radiation detection toolbox.
