In this #GenerationSeries video, Kenneth Copeland Ministries Partner and international minister Rick Renner reflects on his journey of faith and how God called him to be a missionary in Russia. Those who know Rick Renner’s ministry know him as an in-depth Bible teacher who can take difficult concepts and break them down for anyone to understand. His comprehension of Scripture as well as the Greek and Hebrew languages allow him to bring the Word of God alive.
The path to ministry wasn’t an easy one, though. Rick reflects on events in his childhood that, while difficult for a young boy, allowed him to fit in perfectly to the home God would call him to as an adult. While other boys in his hometown loved sports and the outdoors, Rick preferred visiting museums and listening to symphonies. He was teased and bullied as a result of his artistic and cerebral passions.
Later, after attending Bible college and getting married, Rick and his family settled into a happy life in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Rick marveled at the life he believed the Lord had given him. He had a devoted wife, three healthy boys and a beautiful home overlooking a golf course. He also worked in a ministry he loved and believed Tulsa would be his home for years to come.
Then, God intervened. Rick received a request to teach at a Bible school in the U.S.S.R., the former atheistic, communist country known to restrict religious liberties. Rick felt the Lord leading him to accept the invitation. Once there, the Lord spoke words to him that would change the course of his life and his family’s life.
The Lord said, “Welcome home.”
Rick Renner and his family moved to Russia nearly three decades ago to minister to the Russian people. They’ve witnessed the collapse of the Soviet Union, God’s provision in the midst of political upheaval and the stunning growth of the modern Christian church in Russia. And all those interests that brought ridicule to him as a child are inherently woven into the Russian culture.
While Rick and his family have faced innumerable struggles while in Russia, Rick admits, "The biggest enemy I have had to deal with is me." He goes on to say if you can master yourself, your own thoughts and emotions, you can conquer anything.
