Prelude and Fugue no 12 in F major, BWV 856

This really is enormous fun to play. There is more exuberant dancing here, with a Gigue in 12/8. The continuous movement in the two voices is infectious, and there are many extended trills which not only provide much brilliance but also have a motivic function as well. The joyful figurations soar to the highest register near the end. The delightful fugue shows the dance characteristics of the Passepied, with its 3/8 time, quaver upbeat, and frequent moments of humour and rhythmic quirkiness.
