George Herbert was a Welsh-born poet, orator, and priest of the Church of England whose short life (1593-1633) left us with rich poems written as private prayer. In "Poetry and Prayer," Malcolm Guite (English priest, poet, and musician), using Herbert's poem "Prayer" as a template, shows how poetry can enrich our prayer life and reads his own poems inspired by phrases and images from Herbert's poem, followed by conversation with our Dean delving deeper into how poetry and prayer inform music and culture.
