More people are self-deporting than getting deported, DHS says

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) told FOX 17 News that more people are self-deporting than getting deported nationwide.

Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in President Trump's first year back in office, an estimated 1.9 million people self-deported, versus more than 622,000 deportations. She is attributing it to the administration's crackdown on illegal immigrants.

In total, 2.5 million migrants have been deported.

Multiple immigrants in Davidson County who are either illegal or know somebody who is told FOX 17 News self-deportations are increasing.

An immigrant from Mexico who did not want to show his face said fear is driving those self- deportations.
