Mono Lake in Eastern California is a closed basin lake that makes it twice as salty as the Ocean. It's full of brine shrimp that feast on green algae, and waterfowl that eat the brine shrimp. Tufa limestone towers surround many parts of the shore. These towers developed underwater over underground springs, but since the lake level has been dropping for decades, (from water diversion by Southern California) these once underwater towers are now exposed.
