Recovery After Rotator Cuff Repair: Postop Rehabilitation Protocols - Torn your rotator cuff? The surgery is just the beginning and your rehabilitation protocol can significantly impact recovery + long-term shoulder function. #shorts
There are essentially (2) paths: conservative vs. accelerated rehabilitation. Conservative protocols typically involve 6 wks of strict immobilization followed by gradual introduction of motion, while accelerated protocols begin passive movement much earlier (sometimes within dys).
So which approach is best? Discuss thoroughly with YOUR surgeon. The answer isn't one-size-fits-all. Several factors should influence your protocol:
• Tear size (larger tears may benefit from conservative approaches)
• Age (older patients may heal more slowly)
• Tissue quality
• Surgical technique
• Individual health factors
Ideal #shoulderrehabilitation program should be tailored to YOUR specific situation. Work closely with your surgeon and physical therapist to develop a personalized plan that balances protecting the repair while optimizing function. Regardless of protocol, full tendon healing takes time. Research shows the tendon-to-bone connection doesn't reach significant strength until 12+ wks post-surgery, with full maturity around 6 mos.
