Nicklaus Children's Hospital Reimagines Medical Care with 3D Printing

The goal of Nicklaus Hospital is to provide care for every child over the course of their lifetime in the least traumatic way possible. That's not always an easy thing to do, especially when you encounter rare conditions and procedures that others deem "inoperable".

But impossible isn't in the vocabulary at Nicklaus Children's Hospital. Instead, they find ways to make the impossible a reality. By partnering with Stratasys and GoEngineer, they're able to use 3D scanning and printing to perfect their craft and achieve their goals. Over the past 13 years, they've created thousands of models to help them better predict what's going to happen in an operation.

Dr. Redmond Burke tells the heartwarming story of a child born with half of a heart and only one lung. After being told their child was inoperable, the parents reached out to the team at Nicklaus Children's Hospital for a miracle.

And it happened.

With 3D models, Dr. Burke and the team at Nicklaus were able to successfully plan an operation because they had an anatomical model to learn from. By leaning on technology and reimaging the way procedures could be planned and practiced, Nicklaus Hospital made the impossible a reality.
