Airbus has announced an immediate software update for its A320 family aircraft after a recent incident revealed that solar radiation can corrupt data and affect flight control systems. The update could impact nearly 6,000 aircraft worldwide. The move comes after an October 30 flight from Mexico to New Jersey suddenly lost altitude due to a temporary loss of control, injuring several passengers.
Following the announcement, major airlines—including American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Air New Zealand, and Turkish Airlines—warned of potential flight disruptions. Qantas stated that some of its flights are unable to take off due to the update process, while Saudia reported delays linked to software and technical maintenance. The UK Civil Aviation Authority also cautioned that global flight schedules may be affected until the update is fully implemented.
