Doctor Who Filming Locations Series 1

Come with me to Cardiff to visit Doctor Who Filming Locations from Series 1! From the Department Store where Rose works to the scene of the Auton Attack at the Queen’s Arcade, this is just the beginning of my friend Anthony Garnon’s jam-packed tour of Cardiff, Wales! We arrived at Cardiff Central Station in Wales which appeared in Doctor Who Boom Town. So, of course, I had to get my own shots of being in Cardiff station! I was on Platform 6, though, and I believe that Platform 3 was what was featured in the actual episode, but it was still cool to be in that same station!

We have made it to Cardiff! I can't believe it. I noticed the BBC Cymru Wales building that was absolutely stunning to look at! It was the best weather today. I could not believe that I was in Wales and it was sunny! On this beautiful day, Anthony and I walked through the streets of Wales making our way to our first Doctor Who filming location on our tour today. This one's a very famous one, and I was so excited when I got to see it. It's Howell's department store, AKA House of Fraser, known to Doctor Who fans as Henrik's Department Store.

This was featured in the first episode of the new series of Doctor Who: Rose! This was the department store that Rose worked at and that famously blew up. It was stunning to be looking at with my very own eyes! It also featured in Doctor Who The Church on Ruby Road! It was the building that that giant snowman was hanging off of and then nearly fell onto some other characters in the episode!

We also spotted the part of the street where Rose runs past the TARDIS so of course we had to get a shot of that as well. After checking out that amazing Doctor Who filming location, Anthony and I made our way to the Queen's Arcade where we spotted the location where they filmed Jackie checking in with the police to see if Rose could get some compensation.

Right after that spot, you pass by three buildings on the right that you recognize in the background of the fight scene with the Autons attacking. These three buildings now have a Barclays, a Scaredy Cats Cafe, and a Halifax. And you do see in the original episode, the Halifax building and sign in the background! This is where you see taxis driving off the road and Autons coming out of the Queen's arcade and attacking everyone. It was so cool to be walking down this street. And if you weren't on the lookout for these things, you would just think, oh, well, this is just a this is another nice street that I'm walking down.

So I was so grateful that Anthony was there to tell me where each location was! I couldn't have predicted the number of incredible locations still to come, and I cannot wait to share those all with you in the next episode.
