Kalattam (കാലാട്ടം)

The tribal people's traditional dance is kalattam. Kalattam is a dance form done to placate Villu Velan, who is believed to prevent the destruction of forest inhabitants' crops during the sweltering summer months of Kumbham Meenam. Kalattam is a traditional and natural dance performed by the people who live in the forest around the border villages of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Tamil Nadu. A variety of processes are followed by the performers in order to carry out the ceremony. After preparing water, fruits, mats, and lighting, the main dance is permitted. The audience believes that by repeating the dance seven times, the Villuvelan will be pleased and rain will fall. Today, the combination of ritual and ritual is beginning to occur in public. പ്രാക്തന ഗോത്ര വിഭാഗക്കാരായ കാണിക്കാരുടെ കൃഷി നൃത്തമാണ് കാലാട്ടം. കുംഭം മീനം മാസങ്ങളിൽ അനുഭവപ്പെടുന്ന കൊടും വേനലിൽ വനമേഖലയോട് ചേർന്നുള്ള കാണിക്കാരുടെ കൃഷികൾ നശിച്ചു പോകാതിരിക്കാൻ ആചരിച്ചു പോരുന്ന വില്ലു വേലനെ പ്രീതിപ്പെടുത്താൻ നടത്തുന്ന നൃത്തരൂപമാണ് കാലാട്ടം. തിരുവനന്തപുരം കൊല്ലം തമിഴ്നാടിന്റെ അതിർത്തി ഗ്രാമങ്ങളുമായി ചേർന്ന വനമേഖലയിൽ അധിവസിച്ചുവരുന്ന കാണിക്കാരുടെ പരമ്പരാഗതവും പ്രകൃതി നൃത്തവുമാണ് കാലാട്ടം. കാലാട്ടം നടത്തുന്നതിന് കാണിക്കാർ ആചാരപരമായി നിരവധി പ്രക്രിയയിലൂടെ കടന്നു പോകുന്നുണ്ട്. അവൽ നനച്ചത്, പഴം ,പടുക്ക, വിളക്ക് ഇവ തയ്യാറാക്കിയ ശേഷമാണ് പ്രധാന കാണി നൃത്താനുമതി നൽകുന്നത്. ഏഴ് തവണ ആവർത്തിച്ച് നൃത്തം ചവിട്ടിയാൽ വില്ലുവേലൻ പ്രസാദിക്കുമെന്നും മഴ പെയ്യുമെന്നും കാണിക്കാർ വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു. ആചാരവും അനുഷ്ഠാനവും ഒത്തുചേർന്ന കാലാട്ടം ഇന്ന് പൊതുവേദികളിൽ പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെട്ടു തുടങ്ങിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. മിക്കവാറും ആചാര - ആരാധനാ സമ്പ്രദായങ്ങൾക്ക് കാണിഭാഷയിലുള്ള മന്ത്രോച്ഛാരണങ്ങളും അരുളിപ്പാടുകളുമാണ് കാണിക്കർ സ്വീകരിച്ചു പോരുന്നത്.
