Profile of TORARIN, official mascot of the the Kyoto National Museum.

Born October 2015, when the Kyoto National Museum celebrated the 400th anniversary of the origins of Rinpa (a decorative style of Japanese art) with a special exhibition.

“TORARIN” = “TORA” (“tiger” in Japanese) + “RIN” from “Rinpa”

Official name: Kogata Rinnojō (comes from “Ichinojō”, the childhood name of Ogata Kōrin).

Personality: Naughty, full of curiosity

Job: PR Ambassador of the Kyoto National Museum

Tigers are usually depicted as fierce and powerful creatures in East Asian paintings, but Kōrin made this tiger charming and funny with a round face and mischievous expression.
