In this tutorial, we'll be showing you how to wire an S-plan for a central heating system. An S-plan is a type of wiring system used in many modern heating systems, which allows you to control the heating and hot water separately, providing greater flexibility and efficiency.
Before you begin, make sure you have the correct tools and equipment, including a wiring diagram for your specific system, wire strippers, screwdrivers, cable ties, and electrical tape.

Step 1: Turn off the power
The first step is to turn off the power to your heating system at the mains. This will help prevent any accidents or electrical shocks while you're working on the wiring.
Step 2: Connect the programmer
Next, you'll need to connect the programmer to the S-plan system. This involves running a 5 core cable from the programmer to the wiring center, and connecting the appropriate wires according to the wiring diagram.
Step 3: Wire the zone valves
The next step is to wire the two zone valves in the system. Each valve will have three wires - a live, neutral, earth, brown switch live in and an orange switch live out.. Connect these wires to the appropriate terminals in the wiring center, again following the wiring diagram.
Step 4: Wire the room thermostat
The room thermostat is used to control the temperature in the main living area. Connect the thermostat to the wiring center using a two-core cable, making sure to connect the correct wires to the correct terminals.
Step 5: Wire the cylinder thermostat
The cylinder thermostat is used to control the temperature of the hot water cylinder. Connect the thermostat to the wiring center using a two-core cable, again following the wiring diagram. O rin this case a 4 core cable.
Step 6: Connect the boiler
Next, you'll need to connect the boiler to the S-plan system. This involves running a cable from the boiler to the wiring center, and connecting the appropriate wires according to the wiring diagram.
Step 7: Test the system
Once you've completed the wiring, it's important to test the system to make sure everything is working properly. Turn on the power to the heating system, and test the zone valves, room thermostat, and cylinder thermostat to ensure they're all functioning correctly.
And that's it! You've successfully wired an S-plan for a central heating system. This can provide greater flexibility and efficiency in controlling your heating and hot water separately. Thanks for watching, and don't forget to like and subscribe for more home improvement tutorials.
