The boycotts and acts of civil disobedience led by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., John Lewis, and many others in Alabama helped lead to the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

But today, key protections from the federal VRA have been weakened or eliminated by the Supreme Court. In response, several states have passed their own State Voting Rights Acts. Now, Alabama has the chance to do the same.

The Alabama SVRA is a critical step toward correcting past injustices and ensuring fair elections at the state level.
