This road trip in tropical Queensland leads from Cape Hillsborough NP to the rainforest of Eungella NP and then past Eungella Dam into the dry hinterland. This is the Issak Region and I visit Homevale NP, Nebo, the Peak NP. Along the way, the route traverses the Bowen Basin, Australia's most productive coal mining area. From the cola mining town of Claremont I return to the coast, via Middlemount and the sugar town of Sarina. Sarina Beach nearby is a beautiful coastal holiday town and then it is back to Mackay through endless sugar cane fields. But the trip isn't over yet. On a boat trip from Mackay I visit the Cumberland Island group, an unknown and rarely visited part of the Whitsunday Islands.
