The 6.5 Creedmoor was introduced in 2007 by Hornady Manufacturing in collaboration with firearms expert Dennis DeMille, a champion competitive shooter. Hornady based the 6.5 Creedmoor on the .30 Thompson Center (T/C) cartridge case, necked down to accept 6.5mm (.264 caliber) bullets. The resulting cartridge had an efficient design with a relatively short case length (1.92 inches). The 6.5 Creedmoor is basically a 260 Remington with a tighter twist barrel to shoot 140 bullets well at around 2600 fps.
