I have run the the shortest trail till half way and after that I follow the tourist path as it was snow, and the tracks were made by the people passing that day.
tips:
make aure you have a fully charged torch or at least a spare one.
you should dress proparly
have a snack in your pocket
don't take any risks, if you think you should turn at any point do it.. trust your instincts
