Watch Dr. Jeanette MacLean of Affiliated Children's Dental Specialists demonstrate the option of multi-stage/multi-appointment minimally invasive, atraumatic placement of Nowak pediatric strip crowns with GC America's Fuji EQUIA Forte HT glass hybrid high viscosity glass ionomer cement restorative. This painless approach is done without shots of local anesthetic ("novocaine") or sedation, making the experience less stressful for the child patient and their parents, as well as reducing cost and risk associated with managing severe decay. The option to place just 1 or 2 crowns at a time is a nice alternative for the very young, apprehensive, or uncooperative patients that cannot tolerate long appointments. This also demonstrates the option to remove the corwn forms at a later appointment, so as not to accidentally disturb and/or displace the glass ionomer as it is setting.
This tutorial also demonstrates the use of the newest version of EQUIA Forte, HT or "High Translucency." This material has all the benefits of traditional high viscosity glass ionomer cement restoratives (mineral release, chemical bond, moisture tolerant, etc.) with improved aesthetics to mimic to resin, which makes it a nice option in the anterior.
