After three very satisfying and fun days at Swan's Island and Doug Day's can't-miss Sweet Chariot Music Festival, Muriel and I again seek out quiet and solitude among the wind and wave swept islands off Maine's coast. We stop at Long Island Frenchboro, and also Mount Desert Island at Somes Sound and Somes Harbor. Somes Sound is the only natural fiord on the eastern coast of the USA. Named after Abraham Somes who became the first permanent settler on Mount Desert Island in 1761 and also the founder of its first town - Somesville. Due to the mills and other businesses he started, The Somes family was among the wealthiest there for over 100 years.
