During his address entitled “Fighting as 32 in a Chaotic World”, Admiral Pierre Vandier emphasized the instability and rapid transformations shaping today’s world. In the face of renewed strategic rivalry and technological upheaval, he stressed the urgent need for both the Alliance and Europe to adapt swiftly: “Those who will survive are those who adapt,” stated Admiral Vandier.
The Admiral denounced the fragmentation of the European defense market and called for the restoration of genuine industrial and technological coherence, with the goal of placing the soldier “back on the tech horse.” He highlighted the challenge of digital and space sovereignty, recalling that the revolution initiated by SpaceX compels Europe to invest in these new domains of power.
In his view, it is imperative to abandon the culture of excessive caution. The risk of falling behind, he warned, is now greater than the risk of making mistakes. Europe, endowed with strong scientific and human potential, must move from concepts to tangible achievements — embracing risk, fostering innovation, and acting collectively. His closing message was clear and concise: “Adapt or die.”
