Myanmar’s military leader Min Aung Hlaing has called on the Arakan Army (AA), the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA), and the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) to abandon armed struggle and resolve political conflicts through dialogue.

The statement was made during the 51st Rakhine State Day ceremony, where Min Aung Hlaing claimed that peace can only be achieved if armed groups join the political process and follow the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) framework. He urged ethnic armed organizations to move away from violence and seek political solutions through negotiations.

Despite these remarks, intense military operations have continued on the ground. Between December 10 and December 13, airstrikes and heavy artillery attacks carried out by the military targeted areas controlled by the Arakan Army in Rakhine State. As a result, more than 40 civilians were killed and nearly 100 others were injured, according to local sources.

Reports indicate that civilian areas including villages in Mrauk-U, Kyaukphyu, Gwa, Ponnagyun, and Rathedaung townships were affected. Public infrastructure, including Mrauk-U General Hospital, was also impacted during the attacks, forcing thousands of residents to flee to safer areas.

Min Aung Hlaing blamed armed resistance groups for worsening social and economic conditions, while critics point to ongoing military violence as a key driver of the humanitarian crisis. The conflict, which intensified after coordinated attacks by MNDAA, TNLA, and AA in October 2023, has since escalated across multiple regions.

In a separate incident in Mandalay Region, military columns operating between Kyaukpadaung and Nyaung-U townships reportedly detained more than 80 civilians and used them as human shields while conducting raids on villages. Homes and businesses were set on fire, causing further displacement of local communities.

Resistance forces, including the Popa Guerilla Force (PGF), TTA-PDF drone units, and allied groups, reportedly launched drone attacks on the military column on November 18. Sources claim that several soldiers were injured during the clashes. The military later withdrew from the area on December 4, releasing some detained civilians, while others remain unaccounted for.
