Marion 204 Super Front electric face shovel.
This was taken in late 1990 at the Ok Tedi Mine in the Western Province of Papua New Guinea. There were four of these shovels operating there at that time. They began to develop problems as they got older (1994-5) because the deck structure on the upper frame began fatiguing and the hoist drum pedestals were beginning to pull out of the frame. Extensive modifications were done to strengthen this area. As well, OTML purchased an additional 204M from a mine in the USA and had it brought over for spare parts. I believe there were one or two more that had been used in Russia but that was about it. So a total of 6 or 7 of the model in total. I have a friend who was the maintenance superintendent there and if anyone wants to know more about this beast I will contact him and see what he has for documentation.
