My Journey to Being Initiated in the Lukumi Orisha Tradition

On Sunday August 1, 2021 I was honored to have the opportunity to speak in front of a group of Black Lukumi elders, who are mostly from New York City. Although I will be ten years in Ocha next year, I still consider myself a baby in the tradition, so this was a major honor for me. Thank you again to my godparents Iya Asabi Agongoloju and Baba Willie Ilari Oba Ramos, for paving the road before me.
During this talk I spoke about my experience discovering the Lukumi tradition, being marked as a child of a rare Orisha (I am omo Dada), and finding my relationship to God along a unmarked road that has been defined by the silences.
