This presentation shares a high-level view of evolution and migration of the genus Castanea across the world, starting in China and moving finally into the U.S. Taylor Perkins, research associate at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC), has been studying the relationships and divergence of chinkapin and chestnuts in the eastern U.S. for over a decade. Working with Dr. Hill Craddock at UTC, he was recently awarded an external grant through TACF to further delve into the mysteries of Ozark chinkapin origin.
