Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins talked about working on five songs from Mary J. Blige's 4x Platinum album "Share My World" after securing his first major hit with Joe's "Don't Wanna Be a Player." After receiving a call from Bomb Squad's Hank Shocklee saying that Mary J. Blige wanted him in New York the following day to play her some records, a 19-year-old Jerkins made ten tracks in his father's basement that night.
Jerkins says Mary J. Blige instantly wanted to work with him after hearing the beat for "I Can Love You." The producer said that his producer fees increased as a result of working with the R&B legend. He also explained taking on a lot of production work so he could get upfront money while he waited for his royalty checks. He also spends the rest of the clip talking about enjoying the fruits of his labor as a young, hot producer.
